The British Chamber of Commerce in Taipei is honoured to host this joint business luncheon for Lord Stephen Green.

The Minister will talk about important issues effecting business including the global economic environment, UK and Taiwan working in partnership, opportunities in other markets, climate change and innovation.

Lord Green is the first UK Minister to visit Taiwan since January 2009. He is in Taiwan to promote and build commercial relationships between UK and Taiwan in renewable energy, low carbon and major infrastructure projects, to encourage inward investment and to raise market access issues.

The Role of the Minister of State for Trade and Investment:

The Minister is responsible for the development and implementation of cross-Government strategy for trade and inward investment, UK Trade & Investment, Export Credits Guarantee Department, oversight of new Foreign & Commonwealth Office Commercial Director, spokesman for the Government on trade and investment issues in the House of Lords, accountable to the Business Secretary and Foreign Secretary.

About the Speaker:

Lord Green was appointed Minister of State for Trade and Investment on 11 January 2011.

He began his career with the British Government’s Ministry of Overseas Development. In 1977, he joined McKinsey & Co Inc., management consultants. He joined The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited in 1982 with responsibility for corporate planning activities, and, in 1985, was put in charge of the development of the bank’s global treasury operations. In 1992, he became Group Treasurer of HSBC Holdings plc., with responsibility for the HSBC Group’s treasury and capital markets businesses globally.

In March 1998, he was appointed to the Board of HSBC Holdings plc. as Executive Director, Investment Banking and Markets responsible for the investment banking, private banking and asset management activities of the Group. He assumed additional responsibility for the Group’s corporate banking business in May 2002. He became Group Chief Executive on 1 June 2003 and Group Chairman on 26 May 2006. He was a director of HSBC Bank plc., The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited and of HSBC North America Holdings Inc.

Lord Green became Chairman of the British Bankers’ Association in November 2006. On 24 May 2010, he was elected Deputy President of the Confederation of British Industry, and on 1 July 2010 he was elected the Vice-Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce. A trustee of The British Museum, he is also an honorary trustee of Peking University. In April 2009 he was appointed a non-executive director of BASF SE.

Event billing will be sent to members at the end of each month. Expense for any guests invited by an AmCham member will be billed to member's account directly.

Non-members who are neither guests nor staff of members must complete the credit card form and fax it back to AmCham at (02) 2718-8182 prior to registered event.

Registration Cancellation

Written cancellation must be received by AmCham 24 hours before the event, or else full price of the event will be charged to member's account.
