Create Knowledge - Use Knowledge - Enlarge Knowledge

A Wiki is "The simplest online database that could possibly work" quoting the words of its inventor Ward Cunningham.

Today many companies and organizations use Wikis to document, collaborate and communicate. They build intranets based on wikis, which help them to create, use and enlarge knowledge.

A Wiki is so easy to use that everyone can immediately start to enter content and contribute valuable information. The best example is the online encyclopedia Wikipedia with its millions of articles, all written by users of the online community.

In this training course, you will first learn the most important Internet's fundamentals necessary to understand how web applications and particularly Wikis work.

Then we will go on and jointly deploy, configure and customize a Wiki on a live Internet server. Finally we will use this environment to enter content and install additional tools, which make the Wiki even more useful.

The program in detail:

  • Internet fundamentals
  • anatomy of a web page
  • HTML markup language
  • web servers
  • file systems
  • software tools
  • Wiki installation
  • Wiki syntax
  • basic configuration
  • users and permissions
  • functionality extensions
  • practical tips

We will demonstrate all topics in a real live environment with Internet web server and computer available for each participants to conduct exercises individually and in groups.

Important information: The goal is that after the training participants know how to do all this, and not only have seen it.

Note: To get a first insight into the topic, please read the presentation at www.slideshare.net/thomasjs.
