government is counting on to help spur employment and economic growth
while reducing overdependence on exports and hightech manufacturing.
Within tourism, one of the most promising sectors is considered to be
Medical Travel – attracting visitors from other countries for the
express purpose of receiving healthcare treatment.

A number of new projects are moving forward for MRT or
light-rail systems in various parts of the island, including expansion
of the Taipei MRT, the construction of a link between downtown Taipei
and the international airport, and preparation for MRT construction in
Taichung. But due to the low ridership and consequent financial
difficulties of the Kaohsiung MRT since its opening two years ago, the
central government is being more rigorous in assessing the feasibility
of proposed projects for other parts of Taiwan.
