An Annual Treat for Gourmets (and Gourmands)

One of the great pleasures of any visit to Taiwan is the cuisine, whether it is a 12-course banquet in a five-star Chinese restaurant or the fast and simple street food cherished by local residents. And one of the special pleasures of visiting Taipei in August is the chance to attend the Taipei Chinese Culinary Exhibition, where all these treats and more are served in air-conditioned comfort, accompanied by a huge variety of food-related exhibitions, classes, and contests.

Unlike many of the trade shows held at the Taipei World Trade Center, the annual Taipei Chinese Culinary Exhibition is a genuine people's fair, complete with showmanship, pageantry, and, of course, good food. This combination of expertise and simple fun has made the food show, to be held this year from August 11 to 14, one of the firm favorites on the annual exhibition calendar. The event was first launched in 1989, and it has increased in popularity every year since.
