Alcatel entered the Taiwan market in 1973. Today, Alcatel Taiwan comprises the following business units: Alcatel TAISEL (Taiwan International Standard Electronics Ltd.), Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), and Genesys. As the major branch of Alcatel Group in Taiwan, Alcatel TAISEL is a joint venture between Alcatel (60%) and Chunghwa Telecom (40%).

To show the determination of continuous investment in Taiwan, Alcatel on June 25, 2004 kicked off the Interoperability Testing (IOT) Phase in the development of the Alcatel ICT Applications R&D Center with funding support from the Taiwan government.

In October 2004, Alcatel announced its new vision: User-Centric Broadband. UCBB architecture offers opportunities for subscriber personalization and revenue generation associated with new services. Alcatel will continue to enhance or develop solutions and invest in end-user research to usher in a new era of user-centric broadband services.
