Hsieh Nien Fan 2005 - An Evening of Thanks and Friendship |
More than 450 AmCham members and guests filled the ballroom of the Grand Formosa Regent Hotel on March 10 for the Chamber's 37th annual Hsieh Nien Fan banquet. The purpose of the event is to express appreciation to Taiwan government officials and other friends for their cooperation and assistance during the previous year, and more than 100 executive branch officials, legislators, and local industry leaders were in attendance.
For the fifth consecutive year, President Chen Shui-bian delivered the keynote address. His remarks included the promise that the ban on imports of U.S. beef, imposed because of a 2003 incident of mad-cow disease, would soon be lifted. After recalling the "unforgettable experience" of tasting delicious steak in Houston in 2001, the president said "I look forward to being able to enjoy American beef here in Taiwan in the near future." Interrupted by applause, he looked up from his text and added: "Really, very soon"

Compliments to the Sponsors |
The 2005 Hsieh Nien Fan was hailed by many attendees as one of the best ever. The presence of so many distinguished guests, the relaxed and convivial atmosphere, the fine food and drink, and the opportunity for networking with both fellow members and government officials made the evening a rousing success.
For an event of this kind to run smoothly requires the contribution of many people. None played a more important role than the 13 companies that chose to act as corporate sponsors. AmCham takes this opportunity to recognize the generous support provided by the two Silver Sponsors - Pernod Ricard (which supplied the wine and whiskey) and the San Fu Gas Co., Ltd. - as well as the other sponsors: American Express International (Taiwan) Inc.; Baker & McKenzie; Becton Dickinson Worldwide Inc., Taiwan Branch; Corning Display Technologies Taiwan Co. Ltd.; GlaxoSmithKline Far East B.V. Taiwan Branch; Hewlett-Packard Taiwan Ltd.; MindShare Communications Ltd., Taiwan Branch; Parsons Brinckerhoff International Inc., Taiwan Branch; Procter & Gamble Taiwan Ltd.; Saatchi & Saatchi, and American Capital Strategies Ltd.
