In an unprecedented meeting at the beginning of August, an AmCham delegation (accompanied by Economics Minister Ho Mei-yueh and Council for Economic Planning & Development Chairman Hu Sheng-cheng) visited Legislative Yuan (LY) Speaker Wang Jyn-ping. The group called his attention to the importance - for both multinational business and the Taiwan economy - of early passage of revisions to the Copyright Law in order to bolster Taiwan's intellectual-property-rights regime. The response from the lawmaking body was positive and immediate. The items were squeezed onto the agenda for last month's special two-week legislative session, and enacted essentially as sought by the Executive Yuan and endorsed by AmCham.
