Leaders have a huge impact on business success and organizational effectiveness, but right now organizations are not sure that they have the quantity and quality of leadership talent they will need for the future. Three factors are at play in Asia now: First, demographic changes are working against organizations in countries like Japan, Korea, Australia and Singapore, where a generation of leaders is approaching retirement. Secondly, there is a dearth of talent that combines strong business acumen with solid people management skills, especially in emerging markets like Greater China. Finally, the recession, through layoffs and reorganizations, damaged the leadership pipeline. Organizations now need to be more concerned than ever about actively managing the leadership development and succession process. After achieving the status of being the world’s second largest economy last year, Chin is becoming the worldwide number one in category after category. This market trend has inspired businesses all over the world to come up with an ambitious "China Plan." The single biggest obstacle to most of those plans is talent shortage. How to retain and develop talent has become a perpetual challenge for business leaders in Greater China. Competition over the same pool of talent is growing ever more intense. For multinational companies, the proper use of expatriate management is always an issue. It is even a bigger issue for people assigned to China, considering the language barrier, cultural differences, cost of living, taxes, medical care, housing and pensions, etc. Guo Xin, with his many years of consulting experience on talent management and human capital, will provide his open and candid advice in addressing these vital issues and encourage an interactive dialogue during the presentation.
