AmCham Telecom & Media Committee Luncheon

How NFC re-invents mobile marketing

- Near Field Communication (NFC)

SPEAKER Mr. Laurent Renard, Co-founder and CEO of TORO
COST Member NT$1,300 Non-member NT$1,900

As telecom, media, computing and content convergence continues, mobility is now of great interest to not only mobile device companies but also software developers and advertisers, among others. Facilitating ever more promising partnerships between software applications and device mobility to meet changing consumer preferences is near-field communication (NFC) — a technology that enables mobile devices to obtain information, make wireless payments and transactions, and share data between devices just by tapping the phone.

It offers a potential blue-ocean solution for telecom, media and content industry operators faced with intense technological and market convergence. Last but not least, NFC re-invents mobile marketing.

That NFC revolution is emerging first, here, in Taiwan. Companies operating on the island have the opportunity to become first movers, but they also face the challenge of innovation because no one has developed similar services before. What will the emergence of NFC mean? What business opportunities will it bring? How should multinational corporations prepare themselves? What will banks, transportation systems and other loyalty cards do to target customers? Finally, how will marketing reach audiences via the new media? Laurent Renard, co-founder and CEO of Toro, a mobile software startup specialized in enabling mobile-phone NFC applications, will answer these questions, while demonstrating the "magic" of NFC payment and marketing.

Who Should Attend: Transport operators, retailers, airlines, hotel chains, electronic cards and advertising agencies as well as those interested in learning more about future, innovative and non-intrusive marketing capabilities.

About the Speaker:

Before co-founding Toro, Mr. Renard worked in the smart-card industry in the Asia-Pacific for three years at FIME (Orange Business Services). Before that, he was with innovation consultancy firm NODE in Spain and France. Laurent holds degrees from the Ecole Centrale Paris (ECP) and the Business School of the University of Strasbourg (EM-Strasbourg).
