AmCham is pleased to offer the speaker’s podium to Director Stephen M. Young to sing his swan song before leaving Taiwan. Director Young will take a lessons-learned approach to his final presentation by discussing a number of key indicators for success for both the U.S. and Taiwan. There will be ample time for Q&A (without the presence of media). In addition, Deputy Director Robert Wang, who is also leaving Taiwan this summer, will make a few remarks. Please join us in saying farewell to Director Stephen Young and Deputy Director Robert Wang at this event.

About the Speaker(s)

Dr. Stephen M. Young assumed duties as Director of the Taipei Office of the American Institute in Taiwan in 2006. Dr. Young was born in Washington D.C. and was educated at Wesleyan University, where he received his B.A. and the University of Chicago, where he received an M.A. and Ph.D. Within the U.S. Department of State, he has served in the Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs and the Office of Soviet Affairs, and has been the Director of the Office of Caucasus and Security Affairs; the Director of the Office of Caucasus and Central Asian Affairs; the Director of the Office of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh Affairs; and the Director of the Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs. His overseas assignments include two tours in Moscow, a tour in Beijing and as Deputy Director of AIT Taipei. His most recent overseas assignment was as Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic. Dr. Young is married to Barbara A. Finamore. They have three children.
