The Lincoln Society, with support from AIT and AmCham, will host a dinner in honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of the 16th president of the United States: Abraham Lincoln. ROC President Ma Ying-jeou has graciously accepted an invitation to serve as keynote speaker.

A non-political organization, the Lincoln Society was founded in Taipei in 1984 by a group of retired ROC ambassadors and U.S. expatriates to foster the democratic and humanitarian ideals of Abraham Lincoln. From its establishment, members of the AmCham leadership have been active in the organization. Among its activities, the Lincoln Society sponsors an annual Gettysburg Address Declamation Contest for Taiwan university students.

Lincoln’s philosophy was an inspiration to Dr. Sun Yat-sen in setting out the principles on which the Republic of China was founded. It is therefore “altogether fitting and proper” for Taiwan to join American friends and admirers of Lincoln around the world in honoring the memory of this great statesman.

The Lincoln Society welcomes participation by all those interested in the history and spirit of Abraham Lincoln. Bookings may be made either for complete tables (an excellent way to welcome in the new year) or individual seats.

***All guests must be registered and in their seats by 6:30 pm due to presidential office security requirements. Latecomers may be denied entry until after the president’s speech is concluded.
