Post-election Legislature Reforms

SPEAKER General Tang Fei (Rtd.), Former Premier; President, Taiwan Vision Forum and Association / 台灣前途展望協會理事長 唐飛
COST Member: NT$1,300 - Non-member: NT$1,900

Taiwan Vision Forum and Association (TVFA) is a private think tank initiated by Gen. Tang who aspires to facilitate voter education in Taiwan. It organized the first forum in September 2007, discussing the aberrant behavior of individual legislators and the shortcomings in the Legislature’s internal procedures, among which the lack of transparency in legislative deliberations topped the list. The KMT had just won a landslide victory in the Legislature election in January. Is this a prelude to another victory in the Presidential election in March? Are voters ready to invest the KMT with both legislative and administrative power? How would the Presidential race come to an end? AmCham is honored to invite Gen. Tang Fei, the President of TVFA and former Premier of Excutive Yuan, to share his own observations of the legislature election results and insight into how the upcoming Presidential election unfolds.

About the Speaker(s)

General Tang’s military career began when he enrolled in a military school at the age of 12 and ended when he retired as General Chief of Staff at the age of 68. He was then appointed Minister of National Defense and Premier of Executive Yuan. After he officially retired from all government positions, he became a visiting scholar at John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University in 2001, and at Hoover Institution, Stanford University, in 2002. He has a residence in Los Angeles.
