Special Events - AmCham Special Luncheon
AmCham is honored to host a presentation by Prof. Raymond Wu and Prof. Lo Chih-cheng regarding the 2008 presidential election on March 22. Prof. Wu will analyze the presidential election, particularly factors that might have attributed to the outcome and further discuss the opportunities – and the challenges – that confront the president-elect, with particular emphasis on cross-Strait and US-Taiwan relations. Prof. Lo’s presentation will cover the presidential election’s impact on Taiwan’s international relations and foreign policy. About the Speaker(s)Raymond Wu│Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Wu Ray-kuo received both his J.D. (Law) and Ph.D. (City and Regional Planning) degrees from the University of California at Berkeley. Since returning to Taiwan in the mid-1990s, Dr. Wu has held positions in both government and the private sector, including Foreign Affairs Director of the Taiwan Provincial Government, Secretary-General of Carrefour Taiwan, and Associate Professor at the Fu-Jen Catholic University. From 2002 to 2005, Dr. Wu was a visiting research fellow at the East Asian Institute of National University of Singapore, responsible for research on cross-Strait and US-China-Taiwan trilateral relations. Currently Dr. Wu continues to teach at Fu-Jen University and heads a law and political risk consultancy practice in Taipei. Lo Chih-cheng │Chairman of the Political Science Department at Soochow University and Secretary General of the Taiwan Association of Northeast Asia Studies. He is also an executive committee member of the Taiwan Thinktank and was the executive director at the Institute for National Policy Research (2002-2005). He was the host of CTS’s Global Newsweek TV program (2004-2006) and Public Television Service’s World News Tonight. (2003-2004). Since July 2002, Dr. Lo has been a board member of the International Cooperation and Development Fund, Taiwan’s foreign aid agency. Dr. Lo previously held the post of Chairman of the Research and Planning Board at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2000-2002). He also served as Secretary-General of the Taiwanese Political Science Association (1997-1998). His research interests include East Asian security, cross-Strait relations, and U.S. foreign policy. He received his Ph.D. from the Political Science Department of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1995.
